Mrs Peace Kyambadde, Nutrition & Dietetics Lead at GCGH

Nutrition & Dietetics

Good food is part of good treatment. Our nutrition clinic helps children grow well, helps mothers eat well in pregnancy, and helps adults living with diabetes or HIV plan meals that work for them.

Why nutrition matters

What we eat affects how a child grows, how a pregnancy goes, and how well medicines work. A child who is not eating enough falls ill more often and recovers more slowly. For someone with diabetes, food is one of the main ways to keep blood sugar steady. For someone on HIV treatment, eating well helps the body stay strong.

Our advice is practical. We work with the foods families can find and afford in Kampala, not diets that are hard to follow.

What we offer

Child growth & malnutrition We weigh and measure children, check that they are growing well, and spot malnutrition early. Families get a feeding plan they can follow at home.
Eating well in pregnancy Advice for expectant mothers on what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, alongside our antenatal care.
Diabetes and diet Simple meal planning to help keep blood sugar in a safe range, working with our diabetes clinic.
Nutrition and HIV Diet support for people on HIV treatment, working with the Galilee ART Centre. Always in confidence.
General diet advice For anyone who wants to eat better, manage their weight or look after a long-term condition.
