Diabetes and Diabetic Foot Ulcer Care

Don’t let diabetes lead to amputation – take action now

WHAT IS DIABETES

Diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by high blood sugar levels. It occurs when the body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. There are two main types of diabetes: Type 1 (usually diagnosed in childhood) and Type 2 (often associated with lifestyle factors).

TRACK YOUR BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential for diabetes management. Self-monitoring with a glucometer helps track blood sugar throughout the day. Keeping blood sugar within target ranges through lifestyle modifications and medication is crucial for diabetes control.

DIABETIC FOOT ULCERS CARE AT GCGH

GCGH provides specialized care for diabetic foot ulcers, focusing on prevention, early detection, and effective treatment. Our expert healthcare team consists of doctors, wound care specialists, and diabetes educators locally and internationally. We offer comprehensive foot assessments, wound care management, and patient education on good foot care practices.

DIAGNOSIS OF DIABETES

Diagnosis involves blood tests to measure blood sugar levels, such as fasting blood sugar (FBS) and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test provides an average blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months. Symptoms like frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue can also indicate the need for diabetes testing.

DIABETIC FOOT ULCERS

Diabetic foot ulcers are open sores or wounds that develop on the feet of individuals with diabetes. High blood sugar levels, reduced blood flow, nerve damage, and foot deformities increase the risk of foot ulcers.

Proper foot care, including regular inspection, hygiene, and suitable footwear, is crucial to prevent ulcers.

THE SOLLAGEN PROTOCOL

GCGH follows the Sollagen Protocol, an evidence-based remedy to diabetic foot ulcer treatment. The protocol involves a multidisciplinary team approach which also actively involves the patient and their attendants, and it combines wound debridement, infection control, offloading, and advanced wound dressings. Regular follow-ups, monitoring of healing progress, and adjustments in treatment plans are part of the Collagen Protocol.
